Why I Finally Uninstalled Crimson Desert (and Why You Should Too)

I wanted to love Crimson Desert. As a tech professional and a PS5 Pro owner, I was ready for the “next-gen” experience Pearl Abyss promised. But after the latest March 30th patch, I’ve officially hit “Uninstall.” I’m out $70, but I’m saving my sanity—and my console’s SSD.

Here is the technical reality of why this game is currently a disaster on high-end hardware.

1. The “Can’t Start” Loop (The Final Straw)

After the v1.01.02 update, my PS5 Pro hit a wall. Every launch attempt was met with the dreaded: “Can’t start the game or app.” I’ve power-cycled, cleared the cache, and rebuilt the database. Nothing worked. The only “fix” Sony suggests is a full 100GB+ reinstallation, which carries a high risk of wiping local save data. For a $70 premium title, I shouldn’t have to troubleshoot like I’m debugging a broken beta build.

2. PSSR 2.1 vs. The “Shimmering Mess”

Sony just pushed a stealth PSSR update to fix ghosting, but Crimson Desert seems to be fighting it. Even in “Balanced Mode,” the game is struggling with:

  • Severe Shimmering: Foliage and hair look like they’re vibrating.
  • The 120Hz Bug: If you don’t have an HDMI 2.1 TV, the game’s internal resolution collapses into a “blobby” mess that looks like a PS2 game.
  • PSSR Ghosting: Fast combat leaves “trails” behind Kliff that make it impossible to parry correctly.

3. The UX is a Technical Disaster

We’ve talked about the “Aim-to-Jump” mechanic before, but the patch did nothing to fix the fundamental clunkiness. The input latency on the PS5 Pro is still hovering around 100ms in some areas. In a game that demands Souls-like precision, that is a death sentence.

My Verdict

I’m viewing my $70 as a “tuition fee” for a lesson learned: Do not pre-order “ambitious” engine tech. Pearl Abyss has created a beautiful world, but they’ve built it on a foundation of sand.

If you’re on a PS5 Pro, stay away until they figure out the PSSR handshake issues. If you’ve already bought it and you’re seeing the “Can’t Start” error, don’t waste time reinstalling—just join me in the “Uninstall” club and wait for a deep sale in 2027.
